U4GM: poe2 Verisium Runeforging Basics

Most players didn't come back to Path of Exile 2 patch 0.5.0 expecting homework, but that's sort of what happened. Return of the Ancients rebuilt the endgame around fixed Atlas goals, Ocean Expedition routes, deterministic boss quests, and the Runes of Aldur league. It also made old habits feel wrong fast. If you're sorting stash space, checking quest drops, or comparing PoE2 Items after a long break, Journey to the East is one of those odd little names that keeps popping up.

Journey to the East and why Dannig suddenly matters

Journey to the East is listed as a level 65 quest item tied to the Expedition side of the new endgame. The database entry points at a Loreweave-flavoured logbook icon and names Act 4 Dannig as the NPC connection. The practical read is simple: talk to Dannig with the unlock, and you get access to the Loreweave interface. That part looks solid enough. The annoying bit is everything around it.

We still don't have a clean, confirmed farming route. No exact island. No named boss drop. No "run this Remnant ten times" answer. Loreweave itself was added in 0.5.0 beside big-name uniques like Mageblood and Facebreaker, but the interface rules are still murky. Cost, item level, consumption rules, modifier ranges; all of that needs proper checking in-game or from newer notes.

The loop most people are actually running

The Meta: Rush Kingsmarch, open Ocean maps, chase purple Remnant rewards.

The Snag: Bad explosive chains turn easy loot into frozen floor soup.

The Fix: Detonate valuable Remnants late and stop greed-pulling every marker.

Let's be real here: half the deaths are not build problems, they're people clicking runes like it's free candy.

What changed in Expedition now

The biggest feel change is pacing. Explosives no longer dump the whole encounter on your head at once. Each new blast waits until most monsters from the previous one are dead. That gives squishier builds room to breathe, but Remnant stacking still bites hard if you ignore monster mods.

The question people keep asking in guild chat

A lot of players are asking if Journey to the East can be target-farmed from Olroth or a specific Ocean boss.

Right now, no verified source proves that. Treat it as an Expedition quest unlock mystery, not a confirmed boss farm.

Small warnings before you burn an evening

Standard players need to be extra careful with old information. Expedition was temporarily pulled apart there because Runes of Aldur absorbed the system, and old hideout vendors became dead props. Legacy currencies are not the new chase. Kingsmarch, Ocean maps, Grand Expeditions, Remnants, Verisium, Sagas, and the Farrow questline are the live path. Also, patch 0.5.1 data wasn't covered in the source set, so don't swear by 0.5.0 behaviour forever. If your build is already stretched thin, upgrade before pushing late Ocean bosses, and if you'd rather save time you can buy PoE2 gear while keeping your actual testing focused on the Journey to the East unlock.
