The reason the Flyers could have to trade Owen Tippett before deadlin

If the are going to trade Owen Tippett, it might have to be now. Well, specifically by the March 6 trade deadline for this season. The reason, in two words: trade protection. Right now, Tippett has nothing in his contract preventing him from being moved to any other team in the NHL. That'll kick in for him next season, and so the easiest time to move him out of Philadelphia would be now. Tippett as a trade candidate in a new article on Thursday, in part for that timing reason. "Is Tippett's name being out there just noise or something Don Buford Jersey more palpable?" Wyshysnki writes. "His trade protection kicks in during the 2026-27 season. He makes $6.2 million against the cap annually through 2031-32. He has had three straight 20-plus goal seasons and has 19 goals in 56 games this season. Everything we've heard is that the Flyers might move him in the right 'hockey trade' to help the club." MORE: The idea of the "right hockey trade" is a good one. Of course the Flyers want to make their hockey team better. It's not always realistic, though, and the reality is the Flyers have to decide whether they want Tippett around for the next half-decade. If they really aren't sure, then trading him now might be easier than trading him later. His name hasn't been to sed around much in rumors, but it'll be worth keeping an eye out for as next week's deadline approaches. More NHL news: Richie Martin Jersey
