Phillies Sign Veteran Reliever Robertson to Bolster Bullpen

PHILADELPHIA Just days ago, the Phillies' bullpen was a glaring weakness. This week, they added a familiar face.

The club signed veteran right-hander David Robertson to a one-year major league deal, sources confirmed Wednesday. The 40-year-old pitched for Philadelphia during their 2022 World Series run, posting a 2.70 ERA in 22 appearances.

"We needed experience. David brings that and more," Thomson said.

Robertson will joinJos Alvaradoin the late-inning mix. He's expected to be activated Friday.

Why does this matter? The Phillies' bullpen ranks 25th in MLB in ERA. Adding a postseason-tested arm could stabilize a unit that's blown seven saves since Opening Day.
