Probalan (probenecid) is a medication used to treat gout by helping the kidneys remove excess uric acid from the body. It is available in 250 mg and 500 mg tablets and is often taken daily to prevent gout attacks. Probalan may also be used to prolong the action of certain antibiotics. Generic versions include Bencid and Benemid. Probenecid should be taken with plenty of fluids, as prescribed. Common side effects may include nausea, headache, or dizziness.
